Detroit has declared bankruptcy. Illinois if it were a private business or a municipality would have filed for bankruptcy years ago. Like Detroit, Illinois has not paid its bills and cannot afford the extravagant pensions paid to public employees at all levels of government in Illinois. Illinois
must face the fact that it just cannot afford to keep operating in the same reckless manner – but
that is a dream and only Illinois politicians live in a dream world. Illinois taxpayers face reality every day since they must pay their bills in a timely manner and cannot afford to make promises they cannot keep – only politicians can do that.
