A woman spent more than a day in custody although the local sheriff’s office learned she was innocent shortly after she was arrested. Instead of being released, she was arraigned while shackled and dressed in inmate clothing. A few hours later, she was released. She told the deputies who arrested her that she had been the victim of identity theft, and that they should check her fingerprints to verify her story. They must have ignored her request! The victim stated that she hopes this case makes it more likely this won’t happen to anyone else.

Watch How You Dress in Jefferson County, Illinois!

The Sheriff of Jefferson County, Illinois (county seat Mount Vernon) says courthouse visitors should wear proper dress. Visitors should not come to the courthouse wearing cut-offs, shorts, house slippers, tank tops, muscle shirts, halter tops, mesh shirts, hats or do-rags, pajama tops or bottoms, and clothing with inappropriate or offensive logos, pictures or writing. Clothing should also be worn correctly and as designed, the Sheriff says. I guess that means Hulk Hogan, the wrestling superstar, better stay out of Jefferson County!

Attention Business Owners – Another Reason Why Businesses Are Leaving Illinois

The Third Appellate District Court in Illinois has found that an employee was entitled to workers’ compensation benefits for a wrist fracture as a result of a fall on or near her residence. The employee fell on a snowy sidewalk going to a van after eating her lunch at her own home. The van was owned by her employer who let her take it home. Case is sad but true. No wonder no one wants to be in business in Illinois. Private and public employers who let employees take vehicles home should look at this case. It would take the Illinois Legislature or the Illinois Supreme Court to correct this result in the future. Don’t bet on it! Milynarczyk v. The Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission
