SPRING IS FINALLY HERE – SEE THE TULIPS THAT ARE BLOOMING AT McPHERSON LAW OFFICES – BUT NO WHERE ELSE IN SOUTH FREEPORT!

Unfortunately, due to the deer problem in much of Freeport, people will no longer plant tulips since the deer will eat all of them. Of course, the deer now will eat anything that grows. Where have all those beautification people gone, and the $50,000 that Mayor Gaulrapp gave them a few years ago? Let’s fill the food pantries with venison home grown in Freeport! The deer have done thousands (more than $250,000 which is a conservative estimate) of dollars of damage to expensive plantings in this community, but no one seems to care in Freeport. I say this – No public funds for landscaping in Freeport until the deer problem is addressed!

I AM NOT A BIG FAN OF RETIRED CITY EMPLOYEES SITTING ON THE FREEPORT CITY COUNCIL VOTING FOR HIGHER TAXES TO SUPPORT THEIR PENSIONS!

Michael Koester in the Journal Standard on April 10, 2016 wrote an article in support of one of his fellow public employees. Frankly, I don’t care for Mr. Koester. He is in the same category as the Wenstroms who write a weekly column for the Journal Standard. The Wenstroms are also promoters of higher taxes in the State of Illinois. It may be time that Mr. Koester leaves the Freeport City Council so he can join his fellow retired public employees, and then tell the taxpayers each week in Freeport why they can and should pay higher taxes. I might add that in Freeport we have many great public employees who appreciate the citizens of Freeport. Unfortunately, Mr. Koester is not one of them.

Illinois Primary Election March 15 – Your Vote Does Count.

On the Republican primary ballot there two races that are particularly important to voters in Stephenson County. Carl Larson should be retained as State’s Attorney. He has demonstrated by his exemplary conduct of the office that he should be given a full term. John Vogt, his Republican predecessor in this office, has unequivocally endorsed him. The voters of Stephenson County should do the same, and elect Carl Larson State’s Attorney.

The other important race is for Circuit Judge, and James Hauser should be retained as a judge in Stephenson County. Andrew Smith in the Illinois State Bar Association poll received a NOT recommended rating. James Hauser in the same Bar Poll received a recommended rating. In contrast two former, retired Stephenson County Circuit Judges, Barry Anderson and Theresa Ursen, have recommended James Hauser for Circuit Judge. Again, the voters of Stephenson County should do the same, and elect James Hauser Circuit Judge.

All I Want For Christmas Is a Job as a Consultant for the City of Freeport or Freeport School District!

Northpole

The Mayor and his administration are now talking about hiring a retail consultant to the tune of $100,000 per year. If you ask someone what they do, and their response is “I am a consultant.” What does that mean? It means that they get paid a lot for promises, and that they will still get paid if they produce nothing. Most people work at a job where if they do not perform as promised, they do not get paid. I have no problem with the concept of consulting – that is if they produce results. So if the City wants to hire any more consultants, they should not get paid until they produce results. That is same for NIDA and the rest of the professional consultants running around governmental offices looking for easy money at the expense of the taxpayers. By the way the members of the Freeport School Board are experts at hiring consultants – ask them how much they paid the last one when they selected their last superintendent. How much did that debacle cost the taxpayers? The taxpayers deserve a refund.

By the way, the Freeport City Council is meeting Monday, December 1 at 6:00 pm in the rented Freeport City Council chambers at 524 West Stephenson Street, 3rd Floor. If you have Comcast Cable, go to channel 17 to watch live.

Freeport’s Population Exploding – Will Soon Surpass 30,000!

20140410-102418.jpgPrior to leaving office as Freeport’s Community Development Director, Shelly Griswold, as one of her last acts signed Freeport up for a new Obama Administration Program entitled “Rural Growth Initiative for the 21st Century” (RGI-21). The purpose of the program is to promote rural areas and put them on an equal footing with urban areas where there has been substantial population growth. Economic development funds are usually tied in with the population of an area. Since rural areas have been losing population, it has put then at a disadvantage when compared to growing urban areas. To rectify this inequity, President Obama by Executive Order has mandated that in rural areas for every one deer, ten people will be added to the area’s population. Since the City of Freeport has an abundance of deer, over 5,000 people will be added to its population for purposes of RGI-21.

Mayor Gitz when asked to comment stated: “I want to thank the people of Freeport for opening up their yards this winter so the deer could have an abundance of food. I realize that the landscaping has been destroyed in many yards, but that is a small price to pay to take care of Bambi and her friends. The good news is that the deer population will again increase substantially this year. Tom Klemm and other council members have been out counting the pregnant does, and they have advised me that we should see another 20-30% increase in the deer population. I understand that there is a feeling in the community that there are too many deer, but I want to emphasize that the deer are one of the keys to our future economic development. The Chief of Police has been instructed to arrest and prosecute anyone who intentionally interferes with the eating and mating habits of the deer in the City of Freeport. Such conduct as chasing the deer out of your yard in the middle of their afternoon feeding time will not be tolerated.”

Freeport School District 145 Uses Public Funds to Promote Proposition on Ballot to Raise the Sales Tax 1%

Image

The mailing to the households in the District a few days before the election is a blatant attempt by this District to influence the election on Tuesday.   The superintendent and her cohorts through this mailing misrepresent and distort the facts.   This mailing does not even attempt to educate the public in an unbiased way presenting both sides of the issue.

When did appointed administrators have the right to tell us at our expense how we should vote?

Shame on the School Board for permitting such conduct.

Here’s the Illinois Statute dealing with election interference.   You decide if the law has been violated!

§ 10 ILCS 5/9-25.1. Election interference

    (a) As used in this Section, “public funds” means any funds appropriated by the Illinois General Assembly or by any political subdivision of the State of Illinois.

    (b) No public funds shall be used to urge any elector to vote for or against any candidate or proposition, or be appropriated for political or campaign purposes to any candidate or political organization. This Section shall not prohibit the use of public funds for dissemination of factual information relative to any proposition appearing on an election ballot, or for dissemination of information and arguments published and distributed under law in connection with a proposition to amend the Constitution of the State of Illinois.

   (c) The first time any person violates any provision of this Section, that person shall be guilty of a Class B misdemeanor. Upon the second or any subsequent violation of any provision of this Section, the person violating any provision of this Section shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.
